Police investigating sexual assault, drug trafficking

The Weyburn Police Service is investigating a report of a sexual assault on Friday. As a result of that investigation, a 27-year-old male from Montreal was arrested and is now facing charges of sexual assault, unlawful confinement, uttering threats, assault causing bodily harm, trafficking in cocaine and possession of proceeds of crime. He was remanded in custody and made a court appearance in Estevan on Monday.

Weyburn police were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 39 at Moore Street at about 5:15 p.m. on April 2. No one was injured, but both vehicles were not drivable. As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old female was charged with leaving a stop sign before it was safe.

City police received a call on April 3 regarding the well-being of a person believed to be travelling through Weyburn. The person was located and found to be in medical distress, and was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital.

Weyburn police responded to a two-vehicle collision that occurred on First Avenue near Windsor Street at about 5:20 pm. on Thursday. No one was injured and one vehicle was not drivable. As a result of the investigation one driver was charged with a traffic offence.

City police are investigating a report of a break-and-enter to a building on the fair grounds on Friday. Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact either the Weyburn Police Service, or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Weyburn police were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute where a youth was threatening self-harm. The youth was arrested for assault with a weapon and later released. The investigation is ongoing.

As a result of a traffic stop on Sunday, two males aged 28 and 37 were charged with possession of marijuana.

The Weyburn Police Service wishes to remind everyone of the Firearms Amnesty running until Friday, April 27. Anyone with an unwanted firearm may contact the Weyburn Police at 306-848-3250 and arrange to have the firearm picked up for destruction. Please do not bring weapons to the police station. No charges will be investigated with respect to anyone turning in a firearm.
