Weyburn police investigate B&E, mischief to vehicles

• City police received a report of a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Second Street NE having been egged on Saturday. The matter is still under investigation.

• Weyburn police received a report that a vehicle parked in the 1800 block of Coteau Avenue had a tire slashed on Saturday. The matter is still under investigation.

• There were four fraud calls received regarding the CRA scam and an additional two credit card scam calls received during the week.

• With school back in session this week, city police ask that everyone slow down and pay a little extra attention when passing through the school zones and the school safety patrols. Weyburn Police Service members will be out in full force this week making sure that the traffic rules will be adhered to by everyone.

• Weyburn police received a report on Aug. 27 of a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Woodlawn Crescent being damaged by being scratched.

• City police received a report of a male person suffering moderate injuries after having been assaulted on Wednesday. The matter is still under investigation but charges against an adult male are pending. The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

• Weyburn police received a report of a number of teenage youth running about in traffic on Wednesday. Some of the group were identified and received a warning. Police wish to remind people that even as a pedestrian if you are engaging in activity on a street that may startle, distract or interfere with other users of the road, you can be charged under the Traffic Safety Act.

• City police received a report of a vehicle observed driving down the street with a person hanging onto the exterior hood on Wednesday. Police wish to remind people again that, aside from being incredibly dangerous to hang onto the exterior of a moving vehicle, it is also an offence where both the driver and person riding on the exterior of a vehicle can be charged under the Traffic Safety Act.

• Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop on Wednesday and as a result seized a small amount of marijuana. The driver was not charged but cautioned that the state of the law still makes possession of marijuana illegal until October 17.

• City police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Wednesday, and the driver was found to be under the influence of drugs. As a result, a Standard Field Sobriety Test was conducted indicating that the driver was in fact under the influence of drugs. This led to a further more detailed examination being conducted by a Drug Evaluation Expert, indicating that the person was under the influence of both cocaine and marijuana. The person was charged under the Criminal Code for driving while impaired by a drug. The driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded.

• As a result of a traffic stop on Friday, the Weyburn police conducted a roadside breath test. After failing the roadside test, the driver was arrested and later provided breath samples at the police station. The driver was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol. The driver’s licence was suspended indefinitely pending the outcome in court, and the vehicle was impounded for a minimum of 30 days.

• City police received a report of a theft of a bicycle from a residence on Friday. The bicycle was quickly located and it was determined that the person who took it was severely intoxicated. The suspect was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and the bicycle was returned to the owner.

• Police received a report from a local bar regarding a possible assault that had occurred on Friday. The matter is still under investigation.

• Weyburn police received a call regarding a domestic assault that had occurred on Friday. Upon investigating the matter, both parties were charged with assault and released on conditions not to contact each other.

• Weyburn police responded to a report of an unwanted house guest on Monday. The matter was mediated with the unwanted person agreeing to leave. There was no further assistance required.

• City police received a complaint regarding a person who had been released on conditions having breached those conditions on Monday. As a result of the investigation, a male has been charged with breaching conditions of his release.
