Weyburn police investigate fraud incidents

The Weyburn Police Service received a report on Jan. 15 of an online fraud that occurred through Facebook. The complainant advised that she had been contacted through a Facebook friend that she had won a Facebook Lottery and to claim the prize she was to send money to an address in Ontario. The complainant felt this was a scam so stopped all contact and did not send any money. The incident remains under investigation.

Weyburn police received a report of an identity theft and fraud on Thursday. The victim advised that someone had been able to use his identity to obtain access to his bank account and had made numerous transactions. A person of interest has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

City police attended to a local residence in regard to a domestic incident on Thursday after one individual, due to intoxication, was causing issues in the home. Police were able to mediate the situation and no criminal charges were laid.

Weyburn police received a report of a hit and run on Friday, after the complainant’s parked vehicle sustained damage. The complainant advised police the vehicle was parked on Fourth Avenue SE, and when they went to leave observed damage to the right rear bumper and tail light. No suspects have been identified and the incident remains under investigation.

Police attended to a local residence on Saturday for a domestic dispute over access to property after a recent separation. Police were able to mediate the situation and no charges were laid.

As a reminder, the Southeast Chapter of Search and Rescue will be holding a public information meeting in Weyburn at the City Works Building Classroom, #55 -16th St NE at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24.
