Weyburn police take in eight firearms

The Province-Wide Firearms Amnesty has now concluded. The Weyburn Police Service reported that a total of eight firearms, including one pistol and seven rifles and shotguns, were turned in for destruction.

The Province-Wide Firearms Amnesty has now concluded. The Weyburn Police Service reported that a total of eight firearms, including one pistol and seven rifles and shotguns, were turned in for destruction.

The police wish to thank all those who considered the amnesty program and took pro-active action by turning in their unwanted firearms before they had the opportunity to fall in to the hands of the criminal element.

City police received a report about 7:15 a.m. on April 24 regarding a domestic assault with minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, a male has been charged with assault.

Weyburn police received a call regarding a domestic dispute in progress at about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As a result of the investigation, the male spouse was arrested at the scene without incident and is now facing charges of assault with a weapon.

City police received a call regarding a suspected impaired driver just after midnight on Thursday. As a result of the investigation, a male was charged with driving while impaired. His vehicle was impounded and his license suspended.

Weyburn police received a call from a local pub regarding unruly patrons at about 2 a.m. on Thursday. The matter was mediated on police arrival, with no need for further action.

Weyburn police were called to a domestic disturbance at about 10:40 a.m. on Thursday where forced entry was involved. As a result of the investigation, a male was taken into custody without incident at the scene and is facing charges of mischief and breach of probation.

City police received a report of a workplace assault having occurred on Friday. As a result of the investigation, a female has been charged with assault.

Police received a call regarding a domestic dispute at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday. As a result of police attendance, the matter was mediated without further incident.

City police investigated a report of the theft of a wallet from a parked vehicle on Saturday. It was later determined that there were some fraudulent charges on one of the credit cards. As a result of the investigation, a male has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and three counts of fraud.

As the result of a traffic stop on Saturday, a member identified that the passenger was in breach of his court-ordered conditions. The male was arrested without incident and will be making a court appearance with respect to that charge.

A traffic stop was conducted around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, resulting in a female being charged with driving over .08. She had her vehicle impounded and licence suspended, and will be making a court appearance.

City police also wish to once again remind people that the operation of quads, UTVs, side-by-sides, etc., anywhere within the city limits is prohibited by bylaw.
