Police say the girl, who was brought to hospital on Oct. 7 with critical injuries, died two days later.
Officers who went to the hospital had been told by emergency personnel that the child's injuries were suspected to be the result of physical abuse.
An investigation led to the charge of aggravated assault against a 20-year-old man.
After the child died, police worked with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and the Crown to determine next steps.
