Tanis Suzanne (Pitzel) VanDeSype was born May 2, 1972 at the Weyburn General Hospital and passed away December 17, 2017 at the age of 45 years. Tanis was raised in a loving family and was the third daughter of Bert and Leona (Zerff) Pitzel.

Tanis Suzanne (Pitzel) VanDeSype was born May 2, 1972 at the Weyburn General Hospital and passed away December 17, 2017 at the age of 45 years. Tanis was raised in a loving family and was the third daughter of Bert and Leona (Zerff) Pitzel. She attended kindergarten to grade six at St. Dominic Savio School. Grades 7 to 9 at St. Michael’s School and grades 10 to 12 at the Weyburn Comprehensive High School. After graduation Tanis received her Bachelor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan in 1994. Tanis married Cary Lionel VanDeSype on May 22, 1993, they were married for 24 years but had been together for over 30 years. She was employed at the Griffin School from 1994 till June of 1999. Her son, Rylan was born October 23, 1998. Tanis returned to teaching and was employed at Queen Elizabeth School from September 1999 until June of 2007. Her daughter, Hannah was born on January 18, 2005. Tanis later returned to teaching and was employed at Souris School from September 2007 to the present. Tanis enjoyed shopping and particularly trips to Minot, North Dakota for Black Friday shopping, playing guitar, reading, exercising, music, going to concerts, travelling and mostly spending time with her family. She loved watching her children’s involvement and development in sports. Tanis also loved going to Rider home games with her sister Mandy and watching away games at home with her family. She also enjoyed collecting different kinds of collectibles such as stuffed bears and Christmas decorations. Tanis had a life-long involvement with St. Vincent de Paul Church and played guitar and sang at the Saturday evening mass for many years. She also loved traveling and enjoyed many memorable trips with her family. Tanis was such a loving, caring and thoughtful mother and wife. She would always be thinking of everyone else before herself. She loved watching her children grow and her family was the most important thing for her.  Tanis was predeceased by her infant sister, Stephanie Rae Pitzel; grandfathers, Michael Pitzel & Alex Zerff; grandmothers, Matilda Pitzel & Francis Zerff; father-in-law, Lionel VanDeSype and step-father, Paul Jacquin. Tanis will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Cary Lionel VanDeSype; son, Rylan Cary VanDeSype; daughter, Hannah Rae VanDeSype; Mother, Leona Zerff; father, Bert Pitzel (Robin Adeney); sister, Deana Pitzel; sister, Mandy Pitzel Markewich (Carey) & nephews, Grayden and Luca Markewich; mother-in-law, Bev VanDeSype; sister-in-law, Trina (Ken) Calladine & nieces, Kellie and Morgan Calladine; sister-in-law, Kristeen (Carl) Cherpin & niece, Victoria Cherpin (Catlin Haines) & great nephew, Tyden Haines; niece, McKenzie Cherpin & nephew, Connor Cherpin as well as other relatives and many friends. Prayers were said on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Both services were held from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Father Francis Plaparampil celebrating. Interment will take place at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Pallbearers will be Carey Markewich, Ken Calladine, Carl Cherpin, Jeff Richards, Jeff Potuer and Tim Funk.
