Wilfred William Ebel

Wilfred William Ebel, late of Weyburn, SK, passed away January 1, 2018 at the age of 77 years. Wilfred was predeceased by his parents: Edward and LaVerne Ebel; sister Caroline Hornshaw; brother-in-law Marvin Gallinger; and Mary Lund, mother to Wayne and Teresa. Wilfred will be lovingly remembered by his son Wayne Ebel; grandchildren: Megan Ebel and Wyatt Ebel; his daughter Teresa (Derek) Allen; sisters: Viola Gallinger, Jean (Peter) Lund; brother Lorne (Janet) Ebel, brother-in-law Bill Hornshaw; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Wilfred was employed at the City of Weyburn for over 45 years.  After his retirement in July of 2005, Wilfred was recognized as the person to have worked at the city longer than any other employee.  At the request of a long time friend and ex city police officer, Mike Rogal, the mayor and council designated a street in his name in the industrial area, located near the City of Weyburn Workshop, as Ebel Road.  He was very honored for this achievement. After retirement, Wilfred spent his spare time working around his son’s place of business maintaining the yard or stopping in and having a coffee with the crew. He was always excited for visits from Teresa and Derek and looked forward to getting the family together whether it was for Christmas or just a family visit. He was very proud of his grandchildren and attended as many dance recitals, band concerts and award nights for Megan and baseball, hockey and football games for Wyatt that he could. Many will remember Wilf as the “old timer’ with the porkchop sideburns, cruising around in his brown GMC truck. He always made sure to stop and chat or give you a big wave as he drove by. He liked to make his regular stops at Dairy Queen for toast and coffee, to the post office to get the mail, Dollarama to see what new gadets had just come in and to the Co-op food store to pick up some fresh bread or maybe just to visit and give Jerry Ponto a hard time. Wilf was a humble, hardworking man and will be missed by many.Visitation was held Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK.
