Please be advised of our intention to bring to the attention of the general public through the provincial media the situation which resulted in the demotion of Wade Oberg as principal of the

Weyburn Comprehensive School.

It is patently obvious that the decision made by the Director and Assistant Director was made in a knee-jerk fashion without proper investigation of both sides of the situation. We are extremely

disappointed that such a decision, reached by supposedly unbiased officials, could possibly have been made with a clear conscience considering that they did not take into consideration most of Mr. Oberg’s account.

The decision brings into question the competence and underlying reasoning behind such a life-changing decision. Surely these administrators should have had the common decency to fully consult with Mr. Oberg in order to get a clear understanding of the problem. It also brings into question if in fact there was an ulterior motive to the decision.

The appointment of a principal, while there is so much controversy, gives one pause to think that possibly the administrators have realized that their decision was poorly thought out and by so quickly awarding the position to the acting principal, the entire matter can be “swept under the rug” and people will forget about the entire situation.

Rest assured, madam chair, that this group has no intention of allowing this ridiculous, unwarranted decision to simply go away without bringing to light the unfairness and lack of professional decency shown by director Lynn Little and assistant director Keith Keating.

The decision of the board to simply accept the recommendation of the director certainly causes us concern as to the competency of the board in making a decision that so negatively impacts the school staff, the students and the entire community without an in-depth investigation.

The incident in question had absolutely nothing to do with Mr. Oberg’s ability to administer the Weyburn Comprehensive School, as shown by 25 years of stellar service and unblemished record. Again we ask that the board reconsider their decision and show the courage to admit that the punishment in this situation went far beyond fitting the crime of a disagreement in coaching a volleyball team.
