The Weyburn Beavers started a three-game home series against the Fort McMurray Giants on Tuesday night. The game continued until a thunderstorm hit at the bottom of the eighth. It was decided by the league Wednesday morning that the game was complete and the Giants took the 2-1 win. The lone run made by the Beavers was in the bottom of the third when Bo Justin Martinez  hit a single to left field to bring Drake Pilat home.

With much better weather conditions, the Beavers and Giants took to Tom Laing Park on Wednesday night. The top of the first saw the Giants put two up on the scoreboard, but the Beavers quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. While Jack Barrie was at bat, Garrett Perez found the opportunity to steal third.  With two outs already on the line, and one man on second, Drake Pilat stepped up to bat and hit a dinger to put the Beavers ahead.

By the bottom of the fourth, the Giants had pulled ahead by four runs, but Tyler Sandoval cut the Giants lead to one in that same innning with a two-man home run. Perez once again found the opportunity to steal third in the bottom of the fifth which tied up the game at six all. Even with a well fought battle, the Beavers fell short 7-6 with a Giants run at the top of the ninth.

The final game of the series played out just as intense and as close in score as the first two. The Beavers were first on the board with Perez stealing third in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, the Giants score an unearned run and Perez hit a single to the pitcher to bring Dominic Sere home.

By the end of the eighth inning, the Giants were up 4-2. With bases fully loaded, Justin Summers was walked to first bringing Pilat home. Following right after Summers, Perez stepped up to bat and was walked as well bringing Dominic Bravo home to tie up the score. In the bottom of the ninth, still tied four all, with one out and a man on first and third, Bravo hit a sacrifice fly to centre field to allow Cory Wills to score the 5-4 winning run.

The Weyburn Beavers now start a three-game series in Brooks against Bombers on Friday, July 19th.
