The Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings hosted a two-game series against the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats over the weekend. The first game between the two teams was on Saturday night. Chloe Burt was the hero of the game, stopping 35 of the 37 shots taken at her. Unfortunately, two Wildcats power play goals got past Burt in the second and third periods, while the Gold Wings were unable to make anything out of their chances. To put it into perspective, the final shots count was 37-19 for the Wildcats, so if it wasn’t for Burt, the final score would have been way more lopsided. The two teams met up once again at Crescent Point Place on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats were able to get two up on the board before Starla Mann put the Wings up with an unassisted goal in the first period. However, the Wildcats made the score 3-1 before the end of the period. The second period started off rough with a Wildcats shorthanded goal, but the Gold Wings held their own until the last few minutes of the period when the Wildcats scored again. Just over a minute later though, Lauren Demmans answered back and made the score 5-2. Jayden Baker had the assist. The game ended with one more Wildcats goal in the third to give the Wildcats a 6-2 victory. Final shots-on-goal were 32-30 for the Wildcats, with Lexi Peace spending the full 60 minutes in net for the Gold Wings. This weekend, starting on Friday, Nov. 8, the Gold Wings play a three-game home series against the Prince Albert Northern Bears. Friday and Saturday’s games start at 7:30 p.m., while Sunday’s game will start at 1 p.m., all at Crescent Point Place.
