The Weyburn Beavers have announced they will not return to Tom Laing Park for the Western Canadian Baseball League for the 2021 season due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The decision to take one season leave of absence is due to “ongoing COVID-19 health restrictions, including limitations to both interprovincial and US-Canadian travel, increased expenses related to required testing and protocols and decreased opportunities,” said a media release from the Weyburn Beavers Baseball Club.

“Secondly, within the best interest of player opportunities, we decided to make our decision early enough to allow non-Canadian players the chance to find other teams for the season.”

“With the WCBL moving to an All-Canadian roster format on the teams hitting the field this summer, the Weyburn Beavers are committed to finding our Canadian players an alternative WCBL team for the season, pending roster openings, and will be in contact with each other players.”

According to social media posts made by the Beavers baseball club, the main priority for the summer will be continued work at improving their facility at Tom Laing Park and the fan experience for when the Beavers are able to return, as well as staying involved in the community and the Weyburn Minor Baseball organization.

All season tickets for the Weyburn Beavers that were sold for 2021 will remain valid when the team returns to action in 2022.
