The Weyburn Beavers announced on Monday that after a combined 10 seasons with the Beavers, Head Coach Phil Curtis will not be returning to the team.

They went on to explain in a news release that Curtis has received an opportunity to expand on the work he is doing with the Absolute Baseball Academy in Calgary AB.

Curtis joined the Beavers midway through the 2010 season as a RHP. He then went on to earn himself a roster spot the following two years.

In 2013, he took on the position of Head Coach and led the Beavers to their first WMBL East Division Title in 2015 and another in 2018. In 2019 he was honoured with being one of the Head Coaches at the All Star Game.

Under his leadership the Beavers have received two WMBL Coach of the Year awards and  two WMBL East Division titles, have made playoffs for five consecutive years, have contributed 500 plus hours of community volunteering each summer since 2015 and have broken multiple franchise and league records, such as the franchise record for most wins in a single season and the franchise/league record for most consecutive wins.

"While Tom Laing Park won't be the same without Coach Phil, we are honoured to have had an incredible 10 years with him and are extremely proud of his accomplishments and are excited to see what this opportunity brings for him." - from the Weyburn Beavers news release.
