Club volleyball team wins gold at tourney

The Weyburn U14 Cobras volleyball club team came home with a gold medal from a Sask. Cup tournament in Saskatoon over the weekend. This was a 31-team tournament, with teams from around the province taking part, and the Cobras were undefeated.

The Weyburn U14 Cobras volleyball club team came home with a gold medal from a Sask. Cup tournament in Saskatoon over the weekend.

This was a 31-team tournament, with teams from around the province taking part, and the Cobras were undefeated.

In the round-robin games, the Cobras played Warman, Wakaw and Saskatoon Dynamo, and in the cross-over match, they defeated Kipling 25-11 and 25-9.

In quarter-final action, the Cobras played QCVC from Regina, with scores of 25-18, 22-25 and 15-9, and they advanced to the semi-finals against the Huskies Volleyball Club from Saskatoon.

The Cobras defeated the Huskies club 25-13 and 25-19, and the girls advanced to the gold medal game against JCVC from Saskatoon.

The Weyburn team lost the first game 25-15, but bounced back to win the next two games, 25-20 and 15-5, to capture gold.

The team is comprised of Emma Kot, Jill Zackrisson, Macie Hala, Ashley Kot, Troy Dickie, Jamie Labbie, Mya Folk, Denae King and Emersyn Jordens, with coaches Angie Zackrisson and Leslie Joorisity Dickie.
