The Weyburn Comp Eagles senior girls volleyball team will be hosting the SHSAA Provincial 5A Volleyball Championships on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16.

The girls went to Estevan over the weekend where they finished fourth in the regionals. They beat Yorkton 2-0 and lost to Swift Current, Balgonie and Estevan. Since Weyburn is hosting provincials this weekend, the Eagles advance automatically.

Attending the 5A girls provincials will be North Battleford, Saskatoon Bishop Mahoney, Regina Campbell, Balgonie Greenall and Regina Winston Knoll in Pool A, which will play in the Cugnet Centre, with the Weyburn Eagles, Prince Albert Carlton, Saskatoon St. Joseph, Swift Current and Regina Miller in Pool B in the Eagle gym.

The Weyburn Comp Eagles will hit the court on Friday at 1 p.m. against Swift Current, followed by a game at 3:15 p.m. versus PA Carlton, and then at 5:30 p.m. against Saskatoon St. Joseph.

Their final game of the round-robin is at 9 a.m. on Saturday against Regina Miller, with playoffs after lunch. The bronze medal game will be at 4:45 p.m. and the gold medal game is at 5:45 p.m.

Historically, the senior girls were bronze medallists last year, 2014, and 2013; competed in the quarter-finals in 2017 and 2015; made it to semi-finals in 2016, and were provincial champions in 2010.

The Comp Eagles senior boys went to Yorkton for their regional playoffs. They lost to Balgonie and Swift Current, but beat Estevan and Yorkton Regional, which earned them a third-place finish and a spot in this weekend’s provincial boys championships in Regina.

The Comp boys made it to quarter finals in 2017 and 2016, and won fourth place in 2015 at provincials.
