The Comp Eagles girls basketball team will have a special “Pink Tournament” as their first home tournament of the basketball season.
The tournament is set for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 9 and 10, 2015. “Last season we were nominated by the Estevan Elecs basketball team to be the next team to host a ‘Pink Tournament’,” said Lacey Happ, manager for the girls team.
The “Pink Tournament” will raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. The team will buy pink jerseys, and wear them during the tournament. They will also choose another school to host a “Pink Tournament”, and will present a pink jersey to a representative.
Over the next two years, the Comp school and the senior girls basketball team will create numerous fundraising opportunities so they can donate money to the Canadian Cancer Association.
The Comp Student Representative Council and the senior girls basketball program is reaching out to the community for their participation in their “Pink Tournament”.
Anyone interested in donating or participating in any fundraisers can contact the Weyburn Comp for more information.
In previous basketball action, the Comp Eagles girls team were in Caronport for their first tournament of the season on Dec. 5 and 6. They lost their first game to Moose Jaw Vanier, won their second game against Esterhazy and then lost a tough battle against Estevan in overtime.
Then during the Dec. 12 and 13 weekend, the girls team was in Swift Current for a basketball tournament. They lost the first game 60-54 to Moose Jaw Central, they won 50-29 against Yorkton in the second game, and won their last game 54-47 against Moose Jaw Vanier.
Basketball teams from the Comp are currently on their Christmas break, and will return to action on Friday and Saturday, January 9 and 10. The last event before the Christmas holidays was a junior boys basketball game against Estevan, held on Thursday evening at the Comp.
The senior teams wil soon announce their annual McLeod Series against the Estevan Comp.
