Eagles win Len Williams Memorial Tournament

The Weyburn Eagles senior boys basketball team won the championship game for the Len Williams Memorial Tournament, held Friday and Saturday in the Eagle gym. In game 1 versus the Melville Cobras, the Eagles won 81-55.

The Weyburn Eagles senior boys basketball team won the championship game for the Len Williams Memorial Tournament, held Friday and Saturday in the Eagle gym.
In game 1 versus the Melville Cobras, the Eagles won 81-55.
The leading scorer was Tristan Sharp with 19 points, and the top rebounder was Cody Vilcu with nine.
In the semi-final against Regina FW Johnson, the Eagles won 70-56
The top scorer was Earl Pineda with 12 points, and the top rebounder was Cody Vilcu with 12.
In the championship game versus Melfort, the Eagles won 86-56.
The top scorer was Earl Pineda with 22 points, and the top rebounder was Paul Dionne with 12.
“The team played very well in the final against two-time provincial champions Melfort. Twelve players played solid basketball for 40 minutes,” said coach Jacquie Williams of the home team’s efforts.
The Eagles are 17-4 on the season. They have won three tournaments and were runner-up in two of them.
The Weyburn Comp Eagles junior girls basketball team won the consolation final at a tournament in Moose Jaw, held on Feb. 3 and 4.
In their first game, after being down 30-15 at half time, the junior girls fought back and tied the game heading into the fourth quarter, but lost 59-48 to the eventual tournament winners Moose Jaw Peacock.
In their next games, the junior girls defeated Yorkton 39-27 and then defeated Regina Harvest City 45-39 in the consolation final.
“I am very excited for the last month of the season if the girls continue to build off of the success we had this weekend,” said Darren Johnson, head coach for the junior girls.
The Comp Eagles junior girls head to Regina for a tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12, for their next event.
