The Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings returned to the ice Wednesday night after having over two weeks off.

Their first game back was at home at Crescent Point Place against the top team in the league, the Regina Rebels.

Despite a shaky start due a Rebels power play goal in the first period, the  game play between the two teams was pretty even with both teams ending the period with eight shots on net.

About six minutes into the second period, the Rebels put themselves ahead 2-0, but 35 seconds later Dakota Bowler cut the Rebels lead to one. Sydney Keddie and Kate Goranson were credited with the assists.

However, that was the only Gold Wings goal of the game, while the Rebels gained three more before the final buzzer.

Final shots were 30-22 for the Rebels with Chloe Burt in net for the Wings.

The Gold Wings now have a home-and-home series with the Notre Dame Hounds this weekend. The Hounds have home-ice advantage first on Saturday night and then the roles reverse for Sunday's game. Puck drops at CPP at 1:00 p.m.
