The Weyburn Iron Pigs won the first game of their best-of-three league finals versus the Regina Trappers, winning 2-1 at Tom Laing Park on Monday evening.
“It was a very well-played defensive game for both teams. We only scored when Derek Wallace hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning,” said coach Brad Weisgerber.
The starting pitcher, Adam Wilson, pitched a complete game, only allowing one run.
Weisgerber said the team is looking forward to pay the Trappers back, as they faced this same team in the league finals in 2014, losing in three games.
They play tonight, Aug. 10, in Regina, starting at 9 p.m., and game 3, if necessary, will be held back in Weyburn on Tuesday, Aug. 16, starting at 8 p.m. at Tom Laing Park.
