Kelsey Jensen of Weyburn will be playing with a Pro A water polo team in France for the next year. “I am excited to play water polo at a high level again, it has been a couple of years. I am also excited to learn the French culture and language.”
The Pro A water polo team has practices twice a week and plays games every weekend. “I will be playing against a bunch of great female water polo teams that are based in France,” said Jensen. While she is only signed to the team for one season, she said, “we are taking it season by season, to see how it goes.”
Jensen is excited about having the opportunity to enhance her water polo playing abilities and learn more about the European-style of competition. “The European teams have a lot of quick swimmers and they play more of a counter-attack game. For the most part, it will be similar to what I am used to playing.”
To compete with the Pro A team in France, Jensen is going to take her last few classes needed for her degree online. Jensen is taking a Business degree, majoring in Accounting, from the University of Regina.
Jensen has a strong water polo career already, as she has played with the Junior National team. Her Team Sask. provincial coach, who is originally from Nice, France, recommended Jensen for the team in France.
She left for France on September 5, and will be competing with the team until May or June of next year.
