Local gymnastics members attend provincials

Seven athletes from the Airbourne Gymnastics Club in Weyburn attended provincial championships in Prince Albert on May 11-13, and brought home a total of seven medals. In the junior Olympic level 3 (2007) group, there was one athlete competing.

Seven athletes from the Airbourne Gymnastics Club in Weyburn attended provincial championships in Prince Albert on May 11-13, and brought home a total of seven medals.

In the junior Olympic level 3 (2007) group, there was one athlete competing. Emily Davis placed 31st on vault, 19th on bars, 32nd on beam, 31st on floor and 32 in the All Around.

In the junior Olympic level 3 (2004+) category, there were five Weyburn girls who competed. Shakira Stanford placed first on vault, third on bars, second on beam and floor and first All Around, giving her the provincial title.

Adrienne van Staveren placed sixth on vault and bars, third on beam, fourth on floor and fourth in the All Around. Zoe Brooks placed fifth on vault, 10th on bars, sixth on beam, first on floor and seventh All Around.

Lana Hamel placed fourth on vault, eighth on bars, ninth on beam and floor and eighth All Around. Halle Robins placed 10th on vault, 11th on bars, seventh on beam, ninth on floor and 11th All Around.

The club had one athlete competing in the JO 6 (2007-2009) category. Julie Rush placed 12th on vault, bars and beam and 13th on floor and in the All Around.

These girls and the others from JO 1-8 and Developmental will be doing a showcase open to the public on Saturday, June 2, from 1-3 p.m. If anyone wants to see some gymnastics or is interested in joining their competitive team, this will be a great way to see the routines and talk to someone about the competitive program.

Gymnasts age six years and older (by December 31st) are eligible to be in the competitive program. The club will have tryouts on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to noon.
