Local Powerlifter wins at Nationals

Local powerlifter Ryan Fowler recently competed at the Canadian Powerlifting Union Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI, bringing home a gold medal in his weight class.The competition was held from March 29 through April 2.

Local powerlifter Ryan Fowler set a Canadian record at the Canadian Powerlifting Union Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI, which was held March 29 to April 2.


Local powerlifter Ryan Fowler recently competed at the Canadian Powerlifting Union Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI, bringing home a gold medal in his weight class.The competition was held from March 29 through April 2.


Competing in the 120+ kg weight class, Fowler squatted 325 kg (716 lbs), bench pressed 242.5 kg (535 lbs) and deadlifted 295 kg (650 lbs) for a Canadian record setting total of 862.5 kg. Each of the lifts were personal bests for Fowler. With this win, Fowler qualified to be a part of the Canadian team heading to the International Powerlifting Federation World Championships to be held in Pilsen, Czech Republic in November.


Fowler's wife, Heidi Fowler, competed in the Bench Press portion of the event and benched 102.5 kg. She placed second overall.
