The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings have a three-game homestand this weekend.
To kick things off the Red Wings hosted the Battleford North Stars Friday night.
After 40 minutes of play the North Stars were up 2-0.
The score remained 2-0 until the 19:28 mark in the third period when Rhett Frey slid the puck past the goal line. Ben Hitlz and Braden Birnie were credited with the assists. However that was all she wrote and the Red Wings took the 2-1 loss.
Final shots were 34-19 for the North Stars with Joseph Young in net for the Wings. Young was given the second star of the game while the third and first stars were given to Liam Antoniuk and Parker Rey of the North Stars.
The Red Wings return to Crecent Point Place Saturday night to host the Flin Flon Bombers.
The players will be sporting lilac tape in support of Hockey Fights Cancer and are encouraging fans to wear purple to the game. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
