The Comp Eagles senior girls volleyball team finished first overall after round robin play and ended up playing the Nipawin Bears in the gold medal match.

They played a great game against Nipawin with close scores all the way through the match.

Unfortunately Nipawin came out on top and the girls finished second in the tournament.

“Both Renee (Cuthbert) and I were very happy with how the team played overall. Many of the girls are still recovering from being sick throughout the week, so they battled hard all weekend long,” said Eagles coach Chad Jeannot.

Other teams that participated in the tournament included the Greenall Griffins (Balgonie), Riffel High School, Moose Jaw Central Cyclones, Esterhazy Warriors and the Leboldus Golden Suns.

The team will travel to Regina next weekend to attend the Campbell Collegiate Invitational tournament. This will be their last tournament before the Thanksgiving break.

The Comp Eagles intermediate boys volleyball will be hosting their home tournament this weekend, on Oct. 4 and 5, with Weyburn playing at 4, 6 and 7 p.m. on Friday, and at 10 and 11 a.m. on Saturday.

In cross-country action, the Grade 7s and 8s travelled to Rocanville on Saturday for the Junior Cross Country Districts with the following results.

Grade 7 girls (2 kms): Jyllian Payak, seventh, 10:22.

Grade 8 boys (3 kms): Mason Sidloski, fourth, 12:39; Kieran Hamel, ninth, 13:43.

The Grades 9-12 cross-country athletes will have senior districts in Rocanville today, Oct 3.
