The 2019 Boxing Provincial Championships will be hosted by the Sooline Boxing Club on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Weyburn Comp’s Eagle gym.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and the opening bell for boxing will ring at 7 p.m.

There will be around 12 boxing clubs from around Saskatchewan plus one from Alberta coming to participate, said Armin Roettger of the Sooline Boxing Club. Clubs who will be sending boxers include Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Meadow Lake.

The Alberta fighters won’t be fighting for a Saskatchewan title, said Roettger, but will have fighters come to help make up cards for fighters who don’t have matching weight opponents for a card.

Weyburn will have five fighters taking part in the provincial competition, said Roettger.

Kyler Roettger will fight in the junior A category, weighing in at 95 pounds. Twin brothers Emersyn and Tauren Jack will also be fighting in the Junior B category, weighing in at 125 and 132 pounds.

Wayne Ducharme will fight in the Junior C category, weighing in at 132 pounds, and Weyburn will have one super heavyweight fighter, Jesse Mahaffey, who tipped the scales at more than 205 pounds.

“We’re anticipating a big turnout from the clubs, and hope lots of residents from the area will come to see the boxing,” said Roettger.

Tickets to watch the boxing are $15 each at the door.
