Weyburn’s Special Olympics bowling team now has the way clear to attend the Special Olympics national games next February in Thunder Bay, Ont., with donations in the past week.

“With a donation from Panther Drilling Corp., this puts us over the top,” said Lynn Quist, coach of the bowling team.

Panther Drilling staff Cory Hicks and Nikki Dickie paid a visit to the team as they practiced at the Super Bowl bowling alley, and presented them with a donation and with hoodies in the Panther Drilling orange colour.

“I am so grateful to our local media for helping spread the word,” said Quist.

“The community response has been overwhelming with TS&M Supply and private donors sponsoring the athletes,” she said.

Recently, the Dance Zone also gave a donation to the bowlers, as they presenteda cheque for $625 to the Special Olympics bowling team, the proceeds from the Dance Nation Invitational competition.

The donation from Panther will not only provide enough funds for the team and coaches to make the trip to Thunder Bay, but it will help with their training as the local bowling alley is closed over the summer. The team will need to travel to either Regina or Estevan to keep up their training, and the donation will assist with those expenses.

The team includes bowlers Justin De Roos, Christopher Keller, Rob Janke, Elias Pick and Gerald Langlois, with coaches Lynn Quist and Jo-Ann Paxman.
