The Weyburn Comp Eagles intermediate boys volleyball team hosted a six-team tournament at the Comp Eagle gym on Friday and Saturday, and advanced to the gold medal game against Yorkton Regional.

The teams included WCS, Estevan, Yorkton Regional, Regina Christian School, Moose Jaw Vanier Collegiate and Moose Jaw Central Collegiate.

The Comp Eagles were seeded fourth going into playoffs, and beat the top-ranked Central team in three very close sets in the semi final.

The Eagles lost to Yorkton in a very tight, well-played championship final by scores of 26-24 and 25-23.

“I am very proud of the composure of our team, and how much they improved over the weekend,” said coach Colton Lund.

The Junior A Girls volleyball team from the WCS travelled to Portage La Prairie, Man., for a tournament over the weekend.

They finished the round robin in first place with a record of nine wins and one loss. The girls went on to beat St. James Collegiate from Winnipeg in the semi-final 25-20, 26-24 and then defeated Winkler, Man., in the final by scores of 25-19 and 25-22.

The Comp Eagles girls soccer teamplayed Moose Jaw Peacock on Saturday and won 10-0. The girls played in the semi-finals in Moose Jaw on Tuesday, then if they advance, the finals are on Thursday.

The Comp Eagles boys soccer squadBoys had a great semi-final game against Swift Current.

The boys ended up losing 5-1, giving them a fourth-place finish in the Moose Jaw League.

“It was the best game yet. At half time it was only 2-1 and I think we surprised Swift with the amount of pressure that our boys put on them compared to the first two games in September,” said coach Heather Sidloski. “We have a young team but great potential for future years.”
