Weyburn Curling Club to host Mixed Doubles Provincials

The Weyburn Curling Club is hosting the Mixed Doubles Provincials this year. The tournament starts on Thursday, February 21 and ends on Sunday, February 24. This is an Open Provincial competition with a 24-team maximum.

The Weyburn Curling Club is hosting the Mixed Doubles Provincials this year. The tournament starts on Thursday, February 21 and ends on Sunday, February 24. This is an Open Provincial competition with a 24-team maximum.

They will play in four pools of six and the top two teams of each pool will advance to sudden death playoffs. The eventual champion will go on to represent Saskatchewan in the National Championship in Fredericton, New Brunswick from March 19-24.

The 24 teams that will qualify to compete are chosen based off of the Saskatchewan Mixed Doubles Tour Ranking (eight berths), Canadian Mixed Doubles Ranking (eight berths), CURLSASK U18 Mixed Doubles Championship (four berths) and Last Chance Berth Event (four spots). The competition will be structured in accordance with Saskatchewan Mixed Doubles Tour Rules.

There are a few Weyburn teams and players competing this weekend, including Ashley Becker and Ryan Skjerdal, Landon Field, Shayla Moore, Emma Wiens, Abbey Johnson, Rachel Ryan and Danette Tracey.

The first draw is on Thursday at 5 p.m. followed by Opening Ceremonies at 7 p.m. The second draw is at 8. Friday draws are at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Saturday draws are at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday draws are 9 a.m., 12p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Admission per day for spectators is $10 and a weekend pass is $25.
