The Midget AA John Hulbert Construction Wings are hoping that hockey fans of all ages will “Pack the Rink” on Sunday, Dec. 15, in support of their teammate, No. 7, Cooper Walbaum.

The proceeds of the game will go to help Walbaum and his family, as he battles acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The game gets underway with the puck drop at 2:45 p.m. at Crescent Point Place, with pregame activities to begin at 1:30 p.m., including the opportunity to meet Red Wings players.

Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $2 for students, plus there will a 50-50 raffle, and all the funds raised will be donated to the family.

Donations to the family can also be made by e-transfer to teamwalbaum@gmail.com.

Walbaum is from Griffin, and was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 15 years old.

A fundraising website has been set up at Play4coop.com, which states, “Cooper is an avid ball and hockey player in Weyburn and boasts some amazing accomplishments both on the field, at the rink and in school. Cooper and his family are about to endure a very hard ride over the coming months. Living in a rural location does have its perks, but it also comes with a lot of expense having to travel for treatments in both Saskatoon and Regina.”

The site features a variety of T-shirts and hoodies, with the proceeds going towards the family.

Children who are in attendance for this game can have their names entered to win a pizza party with the Weyburn Red Wings.

In addition to this game, people wanting to support Cooper can also attend the Peewee AA Youngfellow Wings versus Estevan at 12:15 p.m., and the Midget Aldon Oils Wings versus Estevan at 7 p.m., both on Dec. 15.
