The Weyburn Minor Football Association is holding their annual Football Day in the Park fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Minor Football Field, with the season’s first home games to be played by all of Weyburn’s minor football teams.

Minor Football held mini-camps over the weekend for the teams to kick off the season, and their practices continued on this week at Jubilee Park. The season opens on the Aug. 31 weekend.

The funds raised from Football Day will go towards improving the Minor Football Field, such as building a midfield tower, installing a score clock and doing landscaping along with improvements to the parking lot.

The games will begin at 10 a.m. with the U12 Crescent Point Energy Eagles taking on the Estevan Chargers. At 11:30 a.m. there will be the U10 Apex Distribution Cardinals intersquad game, then the U14 Youngfellow Falcons will face the Estevan Oilers at 12:15 p.m.

There will be a break from the games at 2 p.m. for a free viewing of the Banjo Bowl (as seen in the photo from last year's event), which features the Roughriders versus Blue Bombers game from Winnipeg, which is the second half of the home-and-home Labour Day series. The game will be shown live and projected onto a big screen in the tent at the field.

The final game of the day is at 6 p.m. between the U14 PAR Contracting Ravens and the Assiniboia Rockets.

Throughout the day there will be bouncy houses provided by Seitz’s Rentals and Supplies, a fundraiser auction for the WMF building, a barbecue, beer gardens in the tent, 50/50 draws and a Football Toss.
