Weyburn Oilmen’s makes donations, names winners

Team Apex were the A final winners of the Weyburn OTS annual Oilmen’s Bonspiel, held on Friday and Saturday at the Weyburn Curling Rink, with 22 rinks entered. Following the end of the curling, two donations were made, with $1,352.

Following the end of the curling, two donations were made, with $1,352.67 presented to the junior curling program at the curling club, and $1,000 was given to Weyburn’s Special Olympics program.

Every year the Weyburn Oilfield Bonspiel sponsors half of the ice rental fees for junior curlers. They want to ensure that our youth have affordable access to curling and that the love of the sport continues to grow among our youth.

Present for the donation are to Junior Curling was Kaylan Moore, Simon Loberg and Danette Tracey, Weyburn Oilfield Bonspiel board member.

The second donation was to Special Olympics. For the second year in a row, the Weyburn Oilfield Bonspiel was able to sponsor curling for Weyburn Special Olympics. They are proud to share the love of sport and help these athletes hone their skills. On hand to accept the donation were Justin DeRoos, Dennis Whitrow, Gwen Paterson, Robin Stelter, Gerald Langlois and Danette Tracey, Weyburn Oilfield Bonspiel board member.

In addition, junior curler Shayla Moore was the recipient of the Michael Mainil-Kim Brady True Grit scholarship of $500, presented by Kim Brady.

The winners of the bonspiel are as follows. Team Apex won the Jerry Mainil Ltd. A event, and the rink is comprised of Monte Arnott, Darcey Ward, Mark Schneider and Larry Paterson.

The John Kmita Ltd. B final was won by Team Bloor, which included Melayne Borys, Calli Benko, Kristopher Hagen and Terrill Bloor.

The Spearing Service C final was won by Team Clariant, which is comprised of Danette Tracey, Charla Moore, Darren Woodard and Steven Hansen.
