Weyburn hockey player Ty Mason was picked up in the WHL’s bantam draft by the Kelowna Rockets, after playing for his second season for the Notre Dame Hounds bantam AAA prep team.

Playing at centre, he went in the ninth round of the WHL draft at 184th overall.

Noting it has always been a dream of Ty’s to be drafted, he said, “I am very honoured to be selected by such a great organization, and I am excited to see what the future holds.”

Ty started playing hockey at three years old and has played all of his life in the Weyburn Minor Hockey system until he went to Wilcox as a member of the Hounds.

He played novice tier, atom AA, peewee AA and one year of bantam AA before he played with the Hounds.

“I understand the level of hard work and commitment it takes and I’m willing to do anything and everything possible to achieve my goals of one playing in the league with the Kelowna Rockets,” he said.

Next season, he is committed with the Estevan Bears in the Saskatchewan AAA Midget Hockey League, and said he is looking forward to getting back on the ice again for a new season of hockey.
