Weyburn’s U18 AA Beavers win SPBL league title

The under-18 Weyburn AA Beavers wrapped up a successful 2020 season on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 win over the Saskatoon Braves in the final championship game for the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League.

The under-18 Weyburn AA Beavers wrapped up a successful 2020 season on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 win over the Saskatoon Braves in the final championship game for the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League.

Ben Manning earned the win for the Beavers on the mound, going five and one-third innings and allowing one run and no hits, and striking out six batters.

Hudson Neuberger came on in relief for one and two-thirds innings to claim the save, getting the last five strike-outs.

The Beavers had five hits, with Aiden Krafchuk and Neuberger each getting two hits and one RBI each, and Mclaren Keslering getting the other RBI.

Neuberger had the first run of the game when he singled in the first inning.

The Beavers were hot in three games leading up to the championship game, starting with a 12-2 win over the White Butte Broncos on Wednesday evening, a 16-5 win over the Regina Buffaloes on Thursday night, and then a close 7-6 win over the Estevan Brewers on Friday evening, all at Tom Laing Park.

The final game was played at Currie Field in Regina.
