The Skate Canada Manitoba Open FreeSkate Competition was held over weekend in Virden, Man., and the Weyburn Skating Club was proud to have five skaters attend the competition.

Saturday was the busiest day for the club as they had skaters in five of the competitions that day.

Hannah VanDeSype and Hayley Gill both represented Weyburn in the STAR 6 Women Free Program. VanDeSype landed herself a bronze medal by earning a score of 18.11. Gill finished with total score of 16.20 which earned her an honourable eighth place out of 12 competitors.

Hanna Bratrud competed in both the STAR 7 Women Short Program and the STAR 8 Women Free Program. Bratrud's Short Program was a bit rough due to the lace breaking on her landing foot after her first jump. Her coaches praised her on the Weyburn Skating Club's Instagram account for dusting it off and giving it her all in the Free Program and earning a respective score of 17.71.

Addison Klapak also brought home a bronze medal after scoring 17.83 and placing third out of six competitors in the STAR 9 Women Short Program.

The only competition the club competed in on Sunday was Gold Women (Star Skate) Free Program. Klapak and Maggie Borschowa were the only two competitors in the competition. Both of them had great skates and earned final scores just a few points shy of one another. Borschowa finished with a score of 25.65, and trailing close behind her, Klapak finished with 22.91 points.
