A fall training camp for wrestlers will be hosted by the Weyburn Wrestling Club, featuring Canadian gold medalist Erica Wiebe on the weekend of Sept. 28-29, along with a visit to a school.

Wiebe won a gold medal at the Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016 in the 75-kg weight class in freestyle wrestling, and she is currently training to compete at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

She will be visiting Souris School on Friday, Sept. 27 to give a short presentation with a question-and-answer period, and then will hold a two-day wrestling clinic.

Wiebe will host a free wrestling clinic on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 to 10 a.m. for any elementary-aged students who would like to come try wrestling. This includes the Freshie, Novice and Peewee age categories.

The wrestling training camp will begin at 10 a.m., with sessions through the afternoon, and again on Sunday, Sept. 29, for those in the bantam, cadet and juvenile age categories.

The Saturday session will include a question-and-answer session with Wiebe, and swimming in the evening.

The cost to register is $150 for SAWA athletes, or $170 for non-SAWA athletes.

Wiebe’s gold medal was only the third wrestling gold medal won by a Canadian.

She also won gold at the 2018 and 2014 Commonwealth Games, and was a 2014 University champion.
