The Yellow Grass U9 Wheat Kings received a donation through the Scotiabank Community Hockey Sponsorship program on Thursday.

Coach Amanda Paré and coach Katlin Teske accepted the donation of $1,000 from Krista Reinfelds, small business advisor for the Weyburn Scotiabank branch.

This is part of a national program for the bank, where local branches can select a local minor hockey team to support, for whatever the team might need.

Branch manager Dan MacEachern noted they like to donate to a variety of teams, as they receive $1,000 each year to donate to a local team.

“We like to spread it around, with a mix of age groups, boys and girls teams. We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to play,” he said, adding they sometimes get requests for needs from teams, and they are considered for the next year of the grant.

The funds can go towards whatever the team may need, whether it’s for equipment, ice time or skating lessons or any other needs a minor hockey team might have.
