Successful Games for Southeast athletes

Several local athletes competed with Team Southeast in the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games, held in Estevan. In total, Team Southeast won 16 gold, 14 silver and 23 bronze at the Games. They were ranked third place overall.

In total, Team Southeast won 16 gold, 14 silver and 23 bronze at the Games. They were ranked third place overall.
The Southeast athletics team captured three silver medals and five bronze. Olivia Lawrence won silver in the 100 metre, and Joely Welburn finished silver in long jump and long jump. Taylor Sargent took bronze in the 100 m hurdles, Bronwyn Douglas took bronze in high jump, Karli Colpitts took bronze in discus, Danica Pedrick placed bronze in the pentathlon, and Ethan Ort took bronze in discus.
In the archery competition, both the male and female Southeast teams captured gold medals. Individual gold medals were won by Hunter Chipley and Joanna Taylor, with silver medals won by Jaelyn Carlisle and Matthew Taylor, and a bronze to Brandon Muir.
For team play in golf, the Southeast girls earned a silver medals. Athletes Hallie Burke finished fourth and Kelly Kay finished sixth as individuals. The boys finished fourth in team play.
The canoe and kayak team won four bronze medals on their first day of competition. Lorryn Labbie and Savannah Pohl won bronze in the female 1,000 m kayak; Evan Barsness and Mason Thackeray won bronze in the male 4,000 m kayak; Drew Barsness and Savannah Pohl won bronze in the 4,000 m mix canoe; and Arliss Sidloski and Alexis Vandermey won bronze in the 4,000 m female canoe.
Then in the second day of competition, the canoe/kayak team added more medals to their total.
Pohl and Vandermey won gold in the 200 m canoe, Barsness and Tuchscherer won gold in the men’s 4,000 m canoe, Mitch Tuchscherer and Jamie Labbie won gold in the mixed 200 m kayak, Evan Barsness, Arliss Sidloski, Abbie Pohl and Mitch Tuchscherer won silver in the 1,000 m four-person canoe, Morgan Sidloski and Drew Barsness won silver in the 1,000 m kayak, and Drew Barsness won bronze in the men’s 4,000 m kayak.
On the last day of competition, the 200 m female relay team won silver, and the 200 m male relay team captured bronze. Drew Barsness and Tuchscherer won silver in the 200 m male kayak. Drew and Evan won bronze in the 200 m male canoe.
In the swimming competition, Aden Dickinson won a gold in the 100 m backstroke and the 50 m backstroke, and a bronze in the 100 m butterfly, Hanna Mantei took bronze in the 200 m breaststroke, and Team Southeast won bronze in the 4x100 m freestyle relay.
Team Southeast had a couple medals in equestrian, with Kayla Wanner winning silver in barrel racing, Kia Rosebanum earning bronze in barrel racing, and Rebecca Russel winning bronze in jumping. They also won gold in the team competition.
