The Weyburn Iron Pigs are advancing to the QVBL Finals after defeating the Regina Trappers Monday night in the third and final game of their semi-final playoff series. The Pigs won the game by a score of 13-3, behind another complete game performance from starting pitcher Eric Evans. The Weyburn team’s bats came alive in the third inning, when they scored 10 runs. Adam Ziegler and Mike Onstad each had three runs, Brad Weisgerber had two while Will Morris, Kelton Hoium, Evan Schultz, Luke Niemegeers and Garett Walbaum each had single runs, with Morris notching four RBIs on the night. On Friday evening, the Iron Pigs hosted the Trappers at Tom Laing Park, and were edged out 3-2, with Onstad and Ziegler scoring the two runs for Weyburn. Ethan Orsted was on the mound for four innings, with Andrew Sillers throwing for two and Luke Niemegeers finishing up. The team will now take on the Regina Ghosts in a best-of-three series for the league championship. The series gets underway on Thursday night in Regina.
